Quail Crossing
by Cathy Carey
This painting takes place in the neighborhood of Lomas Sernas, a lovely community of homes at the base of Bernardo Mountain. We have a lot of quail in our area, and I like to watch them run across the paths. It's always the same posturing: with the Dad standing guard, Mom frazzled and running fast trying to keep the chicks all moving along, and the brand new chicks tottering along. It was easy to imagine this family of quail living under the sage and scrub brush somewhere long the trails.
When I am painting I ask myself, what is this about? What am I trying to say with this painting? This series and my paintings of coyote and fox, are about living as neighbors and as a community with all of nature, to support the many ecosystems of our world. I want to make awareness about the interdependence of people, the land and the flora and fauna. A Roma black matte frame is available for $150
