Couple of Quail
by Cathy Carey
I began this painting about a couple of quail, sitting in the shadows of my succulent garden, protected in this safe haven. As I worked on it their personalities emerged and I began to see the female quail as about to have chicks, and the male is on alert to protect her. She is inward looking, and he is externally aware, a bonded pair creating a family. The colors in this are like a tapestry, richly woven threads of the pageant of life. The painting is an oil on linen, on one inch stretcher bars. A Roma black matte frame is available for $170.
