Raven River
by Cathy Carey
This is the second painting of the Acequia Madre area off Canyon Road I've done. The first one was done while I was in Santa Fe and was a smaller version because I was traveling. I also wanted to develop the colors and textures in different ways. Still a favorite part of the painting for me are the ravens, arranged in the tree it is as if they are all having a conversation, which is exactly how they appear to me as I walk around town. The river is bubbling and happy as it winds through town, sharing its life giving waters with the neighborhood gardens and pastures. This area is so special, as a neighborhood that dates back to the 1750's and because the area remains an ecosystem corridor for the migration and wanderings of deer, coyote, bear and other wildlife that make their way down the mountain and sometimes all the way into town.
